Windermere Community Service Day 2021
Every year our Windermere offices close down for a day in June to work on a project in the community. Each office chooses the project they want to support. Our office typically either works at our local food bank or at a local park. This year we worked at Golden Gardens park clearing ivy. If youβve ever cleared ivy from your own garden you know what an undertaking this can be. This was a fun project and a gorgeous setting. We were working on the trails behind the dog park. Depending on where we were, we had views of the water. Even though it rained a bit, the tree canopy kept us mostly dry.
It was also the first time our office has gotten together since the start of the pandemic. The physical work was refreshing, but the best part was working side by side with our colleagues, laughing and joking around and of course seeing the results of our labor.
It was also nice to chat with people enjoying the trails that we were working on. I was surprised by how many people thanked us for cleaning up the park. We met a few sweet dogs who were eager to get pets from strangers. The highlight, was Diesel, a super cool, gorgeous cat who was part Savannah and part Tabby. He was out for a walk on a harness with his owner who lived in the Marina.
If you havenβt been to Golden Gardens in a while, check it out. You can park in the dog park parking lot and walk through the gorgeous trails and make your way down to the beach. Maybe youβll see Diesel while youβre there!
Adoptable Pets at the Seattle Animal Shelter
Meet Klaus!
Handsome Klaus is a sight to behold, he is far more gorgeous in real life than his photo shows. Klaus is really well socialized with people and has a fairly mellow energy level, a quick game of fetch and he’s pretty much done. He walks well on leash, is house trained and has lived with babies and small children. He has been around other dogs but as he is getting more mature his tolerance for them seems to have gone down and he would do best as the only dog in the home. He has never lived with cats.
Klaus does some have some allergies that require medication and special food. Our vet team and staff can answer any questions you may have about this. Klaus is a big boy but really the gentle giant. Anyone who is a budding hair stylist should love this dog as he has so much fur to brush!

Meet Luna
Luna is a sweet girl who loves cuddles and pets more than anything else. She is a climber, an explorer, and a talker. She is looking for pet parents who will talk to her when she needs it and embrace her chatty cat nature. She may take some time to warm up, but once she does, her middle name is Loyal. She has a lot of energy and is looking for cat savvy home with lots of space for when she gets the zoomies.
Luna is basically a cat genius. She would be a good candidate for clicker training or puzzles. She knows how to open drawers, cabinets, and lids but responds well to verbal cues. She is also a little overweight and may need some help getting back to her pre-covid bod.
Meet Minnie!
Meet beautiful Minnie. She has the most striking eyes and the healthiest coat. Minnie’s favorite toy is her big soccer ball that she loves to chew and chase. Minnie is reactive to other dogs, this means that she will bark and lunge when she sees them or comes close to them. Staff can discuss the best way to manage this behavior with a new family.
In her last home Minnie did really well getting to blow off some steam in a secure fenced area. Since she is pretty energetic having a safe space to run around was very beneficial for her.
To meet Minnie, send an application (found here) http://www.seattle.gov/Documents/Departments/AnimalShelter/Dog%20Adoption%20Questionnaire_Fillable.pdf to animalcare@seattle.gov
Meet Charlie!
Charlie is a truly charming older gentleman. This lanky cat has a cranky-sounding meow totally at odds with his loveable head-butts and demands for pets. He’s a bit skinny right now, and likes his soft bed, but he eats his wet food happily. He loves to be near people, occasionally on your lap, often with his long tail draped across you while he purrs. He’s not big on toys, but gets plenty of exercise checking everything out every few minutes on his “patrols.” He has a great calm energy and does well with a good bit of attention — and he’ll let you know when to stop looking at your screen and scritch him instead.
We think Charlie is okay around other cats, but aren’t sure about dogs. He doesn’t enjoy loud noises if they’re not from his own mouth, so he might be happier in a quieter household. He seems to love having his foster family around all the time while we work from home.
Charlie is currently on daily medication for hyperthyroidism, which he takes with only a little complaining. He’s had several teeth extracted and has stage I kidney disease. He is working eagerly on gaining a bit of weight.
Meet Gordon!
Meet Gordon the Crested Gecko – Guaranteed to beat everyone in a staring contest! He is excellent at hide and seek and enjoys rock climbing and jumping!
Gordon would love to go to a gecko-loving home with reptile knowledge and dedication, and an appropriate habitat including a large glass tank of at least 30″ x 12″, a daytime heat lamp temperature gradient of 72 F to 80 F, and rocks and branches for climbing and hiding.
Come meet this special and unique lil’ guy!
